Meeting in the Middle: A New Rhythm for Change

I was out walking with a friend recently. We live in different directions, but we agreed to leave our homes at the same time and meet somewhere in the middle. We walked together for a while, shared stories, had a few laughs, and then parted ways at that same midpoint, each heading back on our own path.


It struck me how efficient and meaningful that simple plan was. We each had some solo time, and then time together. No one had to carry the full weight of the journey. We met in the middle, and that’s what made it work.


It got me thinking about how organizations approach change. Traditionally, it’s been a top-down process—decisions made in boardrooms, trickled down through layers until they reach the people doing the work. And while leadership vision is still important, the pace of today’s world doesn’t wait for polished strategies and perfect plans. By the time the “what” is decided, the “why” might have already shifted.


What’s needed now is synergy—a meeting of the minds, and of the momentum. Change works best when it’s co-created. When the people living the challenges and opportunities day-to-day are part of the solution. When leadership listens, supports, and steers—not dictates.

It’s not about giving up structure or abandoning direction. It’s about inviting more voices to the table and creating movement that reflects the full picture—from every angle.


Just like that walk, the magic happens in the middle. A little time apart to reflect. A little time together to align. And then onward—stronger, clearer, and better connected.
